Nikon 35mm f/1.4G arrived, brief comments
Just arrived is the new Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.4G. Not a small lens, it is nonetheless consistent with the 24/1.4G and 85/1.4G in volume and build quality.
Lots of plastic involved, but that’s the way Nikon does it these days. Of more concern is that the 35/1.4G shows exactly the same focus problems at distance as I documented with the 24mm f/1.4G. Field shots confirm extremely poor focus accuracy, examples to follow in my review.
I’ll be reviewing the 35/1.4G in depth in DAP.
Otherwise, it appears to be a very sharp lens at f/1.4, a considerable move forward compared to the Nikon 35/1.4 AI-S. As for how it compares to the new Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon, I won’t know that until the Distagon arrives in a few weeks.
