Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G Compared to Nikon 50mm f/1.4G
Just published in my review of the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G is a head-to-head comparison of the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G to the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G.
The 50/1.8G acquits itself very well, though coming field use should establish whether there are other differences. However, it appears that the design philosophy of the two lenses is very similar, and I don’t expect the 50/1.8G to behave much differently, which makes the 50/1.8G a bargain at less than half the price of the 50/1.4G, provided that f/1.4 and f/1.6 are not needed.
The Nikon 50mm f/1.8G is a great solution to shooters on a budget that want a fast prime lens, especially on a DX-format sensor for portraits while also preserving the ability to move to a full frame FX-format sensor in the future.
