Fuji X100 Goes Dead, How I Revived It

The X100 I bought (following return of my review samples) died with less than 50 frames shot. Or so I thought. The camera has the latest firmware (1.01).
The rear LCD would show Live View of the scene, but absolutely nothing else would function— the buttons would not respond, no EVF, no menus, won’t take a picture, etc. It would not even turn off! Pulling the battery repeatedly fixed nothing.
The solution
Then finally, on the computer, I trashed all the files on the SDHC card, and reinserted the flash card. At that point, the X100 decided to “wake up” and respond. This suggests some nasty bug in the way the X100 deals with files on the card.
I did not think to try another card until after I had fixed the issue, so I can’t say whether another card would have resolved it (for that other card).
One can’t have a computer around for this fix at all times (what do you do up in the mountains?), so this is a really disturbing issue. Since the camera would not respond in any way to menus, one can’t reformat the card in camera.
Card compatibility?
The card involved was the SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB.
Fuji’s FAQ support page doesn’t even have a listing for the X100, but the Memory Cards: X Series page claims compatibility with 32GB SanDisk cards.
