Canon 1D X Arrives Monday July 23

The 18-megapixel Canon 1D X (about $6799) will be in my hands on July 23.

At first I heard little interest, but I've now had 12-15 readers express interest since I first noted the apparent lack. Most readers seem to want to know about some aspect of sensor quality, particularly noise at higher ISO— I’ll definitely cover that in comparison to the Canon 5D Mark III. I also plan to cover some aspect of autofocus (but not sports/action), as well as image resolution compared to the 5D Mark III. Then I’ll evolve from there.

However, I have my own interests in it, and at the least I’d like to explore whether the 1D X sensor is superior in some ways to the sensor in the Canon 5D Mark III, whose capabilities are a real yawner in context of the Nikon D800E.

Also, I’ve always liked the build of the Canon 1 series, even if I don’t like lugging such a monster body. I might sell my Canon 5D Mark III and keep the 1D X— not sure, but let me know if you have an interest in buying my very lightly used 5DM3.

Finally, will its video capabilities prove superior to the Canon 5D Mark III?
