Canon EOS 1D X Defective Card Door
The 18-megapixel Canon 1D X (about $6800) is defective. The card door to the right of the SET button will not close; this happened out of the box.
I have been working with the 1D X with the card door flapping around for several days now. It is going back soon and I will have to wait for a replacement unit to test.
How does a $6800 pro camera ship with a problem like this? I mean I opened the door once (once!) inserted a card, and after opening the door again it was now unable to close again. Seems like basic QC should catch something like this.
Details— the memory card door will not close. The latch mechanism can be released with a small screwdriver, at which point the camera will agree to shoot with the card door open, fooling it into thinking the door is closed. But I cannot get the card door to close with or without a card inserted.
