Schneider PC-TS Super-Angulon 28mm f/4.5 HM ASPHERIC

Movements of PC-TS Super-Angulon 28mm f/4.5 HM Aspheric

See Ergonomics for a discussion of the various control rings.

The Schneider 28/4.5 uses dual rings that allow a full 360° rotation of two parts of the lens barrel. One of these rings sits very close to the camera and the other abuts the shift/rise/fall ring near lens center.

Each ring can be pushed forward, releasing a spring which allows the lens to rotate freely (lens portion to the rear, assuming the tripod foot is locked into place on the tripod). In addition, the lens itself can rotate by 360° around the tripod foot collar ring.

Anyone skilled at a Rubik’s Cube should feel quite at home in getting the shift and tilt movements aligned as desired.

Your author admits to feeling feeling frustrated after operating this lens for an hour, but surely with time it would become easier. The constant nagging thought: “was there an easier way to do that?”, and sometime later “I should just go home and open a bottle of wine”.

Diglloyd DAP is DSLR-oriented, but also contains workflow and other topics. Much of the focus is on Canon and Nikon but also Pentax and Pentax medium format.

Special emphasis is placed on lens evaluation, focusing on Canon and Nikon and Sigma lenses, but with a few others like Rokinon/Samyang.

  • Make better images by learning how to get the best results right away.
  • Save money by choosing the right lens for your needs the first time, particularly some of the new Sigma Art lenses vs Nikon and Canon.
  • Workflow discusses image organization, raw conversion and post processing. Many examples show processing parameters for direct insight into how the image was converted.
  • Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
