Sony A7R
Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH

Aperture Series: Church Mosaic (Sony A7R)

November 2014 50/2 APO sample, incorporating flare control measures.

Please see lens comments on the same shoot on the M240.

Shot using the 36-megapixel Sony A7R. The goal here was to determine whether the 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH could be used on a higher resolution sensor in order to extract more detail from it on this very demanding target.

Shutter speeds

Given the shutter vibration issues of the Sony A7R, some special precautions were taken, including mounting extra weight in the hot shoe and shooting more than one frame, some with downward force applied (simulating yet more weight) to preclude sharpness losses from shutter vibration. it was difficult to find any difference with those ad-hoc shots, but the best of three were chosen for the 1/25, 1/50 and 1/100 speeds (in the danger zone).
