Leica M240
Zeiss ZM 35mm f/1.4 Distagon

Aperture Series: Exfoliating Granite and High Cloud Sun Drama (M240)

The Zeiss ZM 35/1.4 Distagon delivers sharpness edge to edge wide open that is perhaps unmatched by any other 35mm lens; the Leica M 35/1.4 Summilux and 35/2 Summicron both have pronounced field curvature and cannot do so, and ditto for the Voigtlander Nokton 35/1.2. The two ZM siblings come closer, but have only mild field curvature and yet fall short of the ZM 35/1.4.

In the DSLR realm, the same holds: the Nikon and Canon and Sigma and Zeiss DSLR lenses all have significant field curvature, which makes the ZM 35/1.4 truly unique among 35mm lenses.

Exfoliating Granite and High Cloud Sun Drama

A polarizer was used for this image acting in part as an ND filter (even so f/1.4 needed 1/4000 sec), but also to cut down some of the bluish haze.
