JPEG vs RAW SHOOTOUT: Portrait Among The Flowers

Shot with the 24-megapixel Fujifilm X-Pro2 and XF 23mm f/1.4. Camera set to Lens Modulation Optimizer = On.

This page supplements the detailed Green Barn example with an entirely different image containing fine-woven fabric and human features. It is intended to confirm and extend the findings shown in the Green Barn example using those very different types of detail.

This comparison is straightforward: examine (at full resolution or crops) the image detail in the hair and whiskers, cycling jersey and stitched leather shoes.

Portrait Among The Flowers

Both the X-Pro2 and ACR used 5000°K as the color temperature, both with +2/3 stop push. ACR setting similar to the Green Barn example except that no green correction was needed for the raw file. The Fujifilm in-camera JPEG was slightly and unpleasantly green and was tint-corrected at WB Shift = {+1, +1}, a proof of the fact that in-camera color has its faults (green tint also seen in other field shots, sometimes severe). In-camera JPEG was used maxed-out +4 sharpening.
