Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II

Processing EM5 Mark II HighRes RAW with Adobe Camera Raw

Some experimentation with a variety of files and approaches resulted in this simple simple workflow for processing the 64-megapixel raw files produced by the Olympus OMD E-M5 Mark II. It’s a relatively simple process:

  1. Convert the 64MP raw file to a 64MP TIF.
  2. Downsample to an appropriate resolution.
  3. Sharpen to restore micro contrast.

Details follow. The steps above can be automated with a Photoshop action. Adobe Lightroom users might have a bit more difficulty since the user interface is designed differently. In general, steps 1 and 2 (and even 3) can be merged by converting directly to a lower-resolution image, and this can work fine with appropriate sharpening parameters during the conversion. However, the steps above allow insertion of other processing, such as adding contrast in various ways, as well as allowing the opportunity to asses the image quality at each step, possibly re-evaluating size and sharpening aggressiveness.
