Still Image Coverage and Quality vs Video 📹

This page examines the crop factor for video vs still photography as well as the relative quality of still frames taken from the MOV file versus JPEG and raw-derived still frames.

Frame coverage

This sequence shows the cropping from full sensor size for 4096 X 2160 and 3840 X 2160 video (both variants of 4K) as compared to the full sensor size. The crop is modest, but it does mean that a 25mm normal lens offers slightly narrow in horizontal field of view for video than for stills.

4096 X 2160: 1.125X crop (25mm => 28mm)
3840 X 2160: 1.200X crop (25mm => 30mm)
