Extending Battery Life / Reducing Power Usage
The Sony A7 / A7R have several features which consume power. Disabe these features when not in use to increase battery life.
In addition to the screens shown below:
- Disable the rear LCD if not generally used (such as using the EVF only), Gear Menu #3 FINDER/MONITOR. But this tends to annoy me, since the rear LCD does not come on when the menu button is pressed.
- Disable Pre-AF (Gear menu #3), which may drive you crazy anyway.
Power drain with menus
Under some conditions, the A7R stays on forever with the menus displayed. This steadily drains the battery. Under most other conditions, the A7R decided to power off after a time. It might be related to having WiFi on (I did not diagnose the cause).
