Portraits (A7R)
With these portrait examples, bear in mind that at f/1.4, the slightest movement of the subject or photographer, or compositional reframing (either or both) alter the distance and thus focus can be disturbed (if it is perfect to begin with using autofocus, which is often not the case). Moreover, the shots were handheld, and the A7R shutter vibration cannot be ruled out as a compromise to sharpness, particularly around 1/100 and 1/125 second.
Not every image shown here is at peak sharpness (shutter speed, movement, focus, etc). Some are shown because of the content, even if not fully sharp. Hence potential/peak lens sharpness should be judged only when appropriate, e.g., when the lens is clearly in perfect focus. The lens is very sharp wide open with high contrast and very well controlled aberrations—superb for a 35mm f/1.4 and clearly superior (for example) to the Zeiss DSLR 35/1.4 Distagon.
