Aperture Series, Close Range (RX1, Dolls)

Tested with the Sony RX1 in August 2012 (not the RX1R from August 2013).

This series shot at close range at a reproduction ratio of ~ 1:10.1, which is a tight head and shoulders portrait range. The camera to subject alignment was shot as almost vertical, causing the zone of sharpness to slice (almost) vertically through the scene.

On full frame at 35mm at close range as here, depth of field is strictly limited, and one should not have high expectations for sharpness even at ƒ/11 outside 10mm or so of front/back depth. The aperture series shows this quite clearly.

Entire frame

An ETTR exposure of +1.3 stops was used for maximum image quality (max signal to noise ratio to minimize noise). Color temp of 5250°K (window light with silver-gold fill reflector). Sharpening of Amount=70 was used.
