Metabones SpeedBooster for Sony NEX

On Sony NEX with its APS-C sensor, the SpeedBooster focal length reduction of 0.7x yields an actual field of view very close to the field of view on a full-frame camera.

Focal length and aperture are invariants, but there are both field of view crop factors and depth of field equivalencies that depend on the format (sensor size).

The focal length actually changes with the SpeedBooster, by a factor of 0.71X. While focal length is always what it is (the same lens is the same lens regardless of what camera it mounts on), one still has to apply a “crop factor” for smaller sensor cameras.

With an APS-C sensor (~23.5msm wide), a 35mm lens is equivalent in field of view to about a 53mm lens, a “crop factor” of ~1.52 (35.9 / 23.5). So for the SpeedDoubler, FOV equivalent for APS-C:
