Most of these examples are at or near MOD (minimum object distance) and similar distances—very close, almost on top of the subject. At MOD, quality can sometimes decline, so how does the Batis 18mm f/2.8 hold up?
For this kind of shooting, autofocus can be very handy for quick blip of AF followed by exposure. At close range (near MOD), the use of f/8 delivers just enough depth of field to still produce a strong subject/background distinction.
