Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M
(Sony E mount)

Aperture Series: Boulders Up Creek, Depth of Field (Sony A7R, APS-C)

Shot with the 36-megapixel Sony A7R in APS-C crop mode.

A 50mm lens can show limited depth of field (real vs theoretical) on real-world scenes, whereas a well-corrected lens delivers depth of field closer to the theoretical calculations.

This scene was chosen for a deep near to far perspective in which both foreground and background are important, to see how well depth of field gains proceed. Demands on a higher density sensor would be higher (e.g., the 24MP APS-C sensor of the Sony A6000), but no different in relative performance than here.

Exposure time

The shutter vibration of the Sony A7R should not have been a factor here, even with the camera in portrait orientation.
