Focusing at High Magnification
Comments based on shooting the Lincoln Stamp series.
The lens hood generally must be removed for work approaching 1:1 because it shades the subject matter; the same is true for all relatively short focal length macro lenses. The Touit 50/2.8M is actually 34.4mm when used at 1:1.
Focusing the Touit 50/2.8M
Like all (or at least nearly all) the mirrorless camera lenses, the Touit 50/2.8 operates in “focus by wire” mode—electronic focus control in discrete steps. It appeared to be adequate for achieving peak focus in the Lincoln Stamp series.
Focusing at close range, a single tick change in focus is visibly better or worse, making one wonder if the stepping precision is adequate for truly peak focus—it seemed so, but barring meticulous testing using a focusing rail, it’s hard to be certain.
