The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II is a new optical design replacing its predecessor, the EF 14/2.8L (which was/is described as having “ideal image quality”!). The “II” version promises much better image contrast and sharpness at the periphery of the frame, reduced chromatic aberration, and various other improvements, including moisture and dust-proofing.
