Canon 5DS R: Awful Color Rendition using Adobe Camera Raw (Fruit)

As of late June 2015, the Adobe Camera Raw “Adobe Standard” profile is awful for the Canon 5DS R, as can be seen by comparing it to the Canon 5D Mark II, as here.

Both images were processed identically except for minor white balance and tint differences as per the gray cube.

Color comparison

Due to different mounting brackets (no custom bracket available for 5DS R as this was shot), the images are slightly different in perspective. They have been aligned at center, and a slight crop done.

Adobe Photoshop CC 2015, Adobe Camera Raw 9.1 (441), ACR settings, Camera Profile = Camera Standard. Same exposure for both cameras using Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 APO-Planar @ f/9. RawDigger shows a perfect exposure.

  • Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
