Canon 5DS R

Overview of Canon EOS 5DS / 5DS R

Editorial first.

There is a certain amount of summary castigation here—Canon bears the brunt of it, coming a year after the Nikon D810—but in light of the fanatical and fantastic advances at Sony*, Canon and Nikon had better be castigated and see the light soon—because the DSLR feature set always had some issues and still does and won’t get better doing same-old a little better. Put less ardently, the popularity of mirrorless is not a fluke. Your author does not expect a DSLR to become a mirrorless camera (though that too should be done with compatible lens mount), but the insistence on rear LCD and no EVF option at all is, for starters, all but unforgiveable in 2015.

* Sony reportedly claims to autofocus as fast as on a Canon DSLR on the A7R II using Canon EF lenses with the Sony lens adapter.
