Comparison at 35mm with EF 35mm f/1.4L

This page compares the EF 17-40mm f/4L to the 16-35mm f/2.8L II at 35mm, using the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L as a reference lens. All conclusions are based on viewing images as 16-bit TIF in Photoshop, processed from RAW.

The 17-40mm f/4L was a brand-new lens, supplied for testing by our trusted vendor B&H Photo.

The 16-35mm f/2.8L II was my own existing lens, one I know to represent about as good as one can expect, based on multiple prior samples of the original 16-35mm f/2.8L. Still it’s not so great, as this comparison shows.
