Focus Shift Assessment at ~10 Meters, Ruled Target (Nikon D810)

How well the Nikon 200mm f/2G ED VR II holds or does not hold focus with stopping down (focus shift) is assessed here at a shooting distance of about 32 feet / 10 meters.

The check here was prompted by seeing a significant focus shift at closer range. If that same shift were present at greater range, it would be a concern. But since lenses can exhibit focus shift that increases with closer-range focus, and since the 200/2 is likely to be used at medium/far distance, it seemed prudent to check the behavior at medium distance.

Matt cutter board and ruler

The target was at a distance of about 19 feet / 5.8 meters. The board and ruler are angle at about 45° to the camera so that any shift in focus ought to pop out like a sore thumb.
