Nikon D810
AF-S Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G ED

Aperture Series: Sparkling Lake (D810)

This lens rendering series shows real world performance when focused at very close range to the far distance. The camera is very low to the ground (all but on the grass), and the driftwood in the foreground is only 1/3 of a meter or so distant.

The scene also happens to be an excellent articulation and demonstration of the point spread function in peripheral areas for the 20mm f/1.8G, showing clearly why performance hits a peak around f/4.

The trout in this area are lucky in that the drainage is fed by the remnants of the Mt Conness glacier.

  • Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
