Ergonomics

The Nikon 24-120mm f/4G VR is a relatively large lens, much larger than the consumer-grade lenses for DX camera, and so it will feel much more at home on a Nikon D700 or D3s than on a DX body. Because it is large (and larger when zoomed), it will attract attention as will any large lens.

Build quality

Build quality is in the same league as most Nikon AF-S pro-grade zoom lenses, but it does have an overall lower quality feel than the 24-70mm f/2.8G, due to its focusing ring and the extension of the lens.

Lens hood

The lens hood expands outwards, and thus occupies significant space. It is not really adequate for longer focal lengths, because the distance from the front element does not change. It will almost certainly block the flash output on a Nikon D700 or DX body with built-in flash at just about any focal length—remove the hood.
