About 7°F and hands start to ache from the cold in short order, even with mid-weight gloves. A tent is shelter for the night, but comfy with the proper gear. And it has the right vibe for outdoor work like this, makes it authentic.
The vignetting at f/2.8 is a useful feature, helping to bring attention to the subject by toning down the sky—something to keep in mind no matter the subject—increasing the depth of field and evening-out the illumination is often a losing proposition for visual impact. Aperture f/4.5 still offers just a bit of useful vignetting, while delivering high performance on the tree.
