Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G

Examples — Mountains

Examples here were taken in the space of a few hours on a day hike.

These shots taken with a second sample of the 24mm f/1.4G (different lens than the initial sample).\

I did not have a chance to verify that this sample was free of issues prior to my trip, and unfortunately the 24/1.4G had issues, with strong red/cyan color fringing on the left side, as well as reduced sharpness in that area. I have sent it back for a refund. For more on lens testing, see Making Sharp Images.

In spite of issues, the potential of the lens is evident.

  • Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
