Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G

Introduction

The new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G normal lens ($499 street price) was released in December 2008, the latest in a long line of 50mm Nikkors. Its salient features over its predecessors include fast AF-S focusing, improved manual focus feel compared to the previous 50/1.4D, and a 9-bladed diaphragm, for more pleasing out-of-focus rendition (bokeh). It’s unclear if the Super Integrated Coatings are different than those of its predecessor the 50/1.4D, but field shooting suggests the coatings are in fact different.
