MTF Chart for Nikon 50mm f/1.8G

The MTF chart for wide-open f/1.8 suggests a lens with very high central contrast on both coarse and fine structures, which rolls off gracefully to the edges/corners.

This is high performance for wide open, and it’s a pity that Nikon does not provide MTF charts for f/4 or f/5.6.

Note that actual lenses might or might not live up to this MTF chart, since real lenses must be factory-built and thus might perform at a lower level in practice. See Making Sharp Images for more on MTF.

Note that MTF at 30 line pairs/mm cannot be directly compared to that at 40 lp/mm as with Zeiss and Leica MTF charts.
