Lens choice
The Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon offers the best performance available in a 35mm lens, having both high sharpness wide open (when focused precisely!) and superb color correction.
Aperture f/5.6 is used here as a compromise; it does not deliver enough depth of field for the background and/or to overcome mild field curvature, but it shows peak contrast centrally, which is the main interest here in comparing sensor potential.
