Nikon D800

D800E vs D800 (Aerial, Fountain)

This comparison is less than ideal, but is being presented pending arrival of a D800 and D800E pair for more extensive testing.

The goal of this comparison is to gain insight into general differences in image quality between the Nikon D800 and D800E.

Be sure to see how sharpening affects the results.

The same Zeiss ZF.2 21mm f/2.8 Distagon lens was used on both cameras, at f/5.6. The 21/2.8 Distagon is perhaps the finest 21mm DSLR lens available today, but even so it shows its limitations on the D800/D800E.

RAW conversion was identical for both images. Sharpening was my usual approach, identical for both cameras.
