Comparison to Leica S2 (Mosaic)

This comparison is between the Nikon D800 + Zeiss 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar and the Leica S2 + 120mm f/2.5 APO-Macro-Summarit-S. Both lenses are world-class optics which represent the best possible results on their respective bodies.

This comparison is at ƒ/5.6 for both cameras, the optimal aperture for both lenses.

Five (5) full aperture series were shot for the Leica S2, and the best one chosen (two were flubs— no Live View). The series shown here for the Leica S2 was confirmed to be all but identical at ƒ/2.8 vs ƒ/5.6, showing that optimal focus had been achieved for the S2.

For the D800, Live View and post-shot inspection proved out that the series was optimal.
