Comparison
In comparing the crops, bear in mind that the Leica 180/2.8 APO is at roughly a 3% resolution disadvantage to the Nikon 180/2.8 and the two Nikon zooms, and about 1% to the Tamron; this can be seen below in the full-frame images. The Leica 180/2.8 APO still comes out ahead in spite of it.
My well-worn chart was put to use for this test. Illumination was less than desirable in uniformity and color, but all lenses had the same torture test applied while the rainstorm raged outside. All targets below are from f/8.
