NOTE: focus shift can vary by focal length and focusing distance.
When comparing lenses, many factors come into play which can skew perceptions of the relative merits of each, depending on the scene and how the sharpest focus comes to bear: chosen point of focus but also focus shift and field curvature. It is also extremely difficult to match the zone of sharpest focus (try comparing a lens to itself!). Moreover, most all lenses have some variation in their optics which can degrade at least some portion of the frame (e.g., a corner or a weaker side).
