Eagles at 4 Megapixels

A much more extensive set of eagle images is found in 4 parts here.

These images taken in 2004 using the 4-megapixel Nikon D2H and AF-S 300mm f/2.8 or AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR. Bear in mond that the D2H was a cropped frame DX sensor, so that 300mm was the equivalent in field of view to 450mm.

Resolution

The D2H delivered 4 megapixels at 2464 X 1632: paltry resolution even for a point and shoot in 2013 as this was prepared. Yet the image quality was quite satisfactory for a 16 X 24 print with appropriate subjects.

Still, I would have loved to have shot these images with a Nikon D800E at 7360 wide instead of 2465: if nothing else, the oversampling and reduced noise would have produced notably higher image quality even at, say, 12 megapixels, along with a lot more detail.

Diglloyd DAP is DSLR-oriented, but also contains workflow and other topics. Much of the focus is on Canon and Nikon but also Pentax and Pentax medium format.

Special emphasis is placed on lens evaluation, focusing on Canon and Nikon and Sigma lenses, but with a few others like Rokinon/Samyang.

  • Make better images by learning how to get the best results right away.
  • Save money by choosing the right lens for your needs the first time, particularly some of the new Sigma Art lenses vs Nikon and Canon.
  • Workflow discusses image organization, raw conversion and post processing. Many examples show processing parameters for direct insight into how the image was converted.
  • Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
