Leave the Tripod Behind

There are master photographers out there who can previsualize everything, set up a tripod, and get it done, just like that.

I’m not one of these photographers.

And I take enjoyment in finding interesting stuff in nooks and crannies and steep slopes, and a tripod just is a drag (literally) in many of of those cases.

I make my most interesting images when I am not slowed down by a tripod, because I can work a subject near/far/up/down, and turn another direction and do it again

I have no patience for macro work on a tripod either, and so I have a lot of respect for those who do that kind of thing— but it just kills any interest I have.

That’s me, and if it’s you too, then aim for a stellar low-light-high-iso camera like the Nikon D3s, and let your creativity flow.
