Leica 16-18-21mm f/4 Tri-Elmar-M ASPH

Examples: 18/3.8 Super-Elmar-M ASPH

These examples were taken with Leica 18mm f/3.8 Super-Elmar-M, a modern Leica design more appropriate for the digital sensor of the Leica M8 or M9, because its design does not use extreme ray angles to the sensors, thus ensuring less vignetting and lower off-center color.

Aperture not recorded

All apertures are “best guess” from memory and the camera’s recorded guess— the M9 does not and cannot know the aperture at which the exposure is made. The notation ~f/8 means “f/8 or thereabouts”.

Color and vignetting

As an 18mm lens, the color uniformity and vignetting control are very impressive. Its modern somewhat retrofocus design along with the lens adjustment built into the M9 yield impressive results, striking in comparison to the Zeiss 18mm or 15mm.
