Leica 50mm f/2 Summicron-M

Examples: 50/2 Summicron Aperture Series (Golden Gate)

On this page we explore the optical performance on an outdoor scene, showing that there appears to be some minor field curvature at infinity focus, and that stopping down to f/5.6 provides tremendous sharpness on the Leica M9.

Exposure

The f/2 frame received 1 more stop of exposure than the other frames (1/4000 second), with the subsequent frames being shot one frame darker (e.g. 1/4000 for f/2.8) and given +0.5 stop exposure compensation.

The scene is of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on a beautiful summer day, because if you have your health, all days are beautiful. Well, it was dreary and cold and windy on this June day, so windy that I was forced to take shelter behind a tree even while wearing a warm down jacket (WM Flash XR).
