Leica 21mm f/3.4 Super-Elmar-M ASPH

Flare: Leica 21/3.4

The 21/3.4 is superbly suited to contre-jour imaging situations, because it maintains ultra-high contrast. Veiling flare is all but non-existent, and only the faintest of ghosting flare can be found under the most extreme conditions.

The 21/2.4 Super-Elmar-M ASPH can be forced to show a small flare spot under the right conditions, but in normal use one, even into the sun, one is hard pressed to find any flare.

Two examples are shown on this page, but many other examples also demonstrate the remarkable flare resistance.

Into the sun

In color or black and white, the results here are truly impressive: an absence of ghosting or veiling flare, ultra high contrast, superb detail throughout the frame.
