Leica 28mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPH (2016)

Distortion

Distortion is low for a 28mm f/2 lens, but shows up on buildings or even horizons. Yet few 28mm lenses have distortion this low, excepting its exceptional 28/2.8 sibling.

The distortion is not strictly uniform barrel distortion; it “flattens” slightly at about 2/3 from center. This could make it more difficult to correct in software, but it is probably close enough.

The 1.2% distortion is very low for an f/2 lens, and on most subjects it will not be detected by the eye— except for architecture, see the examples with its 28/2 predecessor, which performs identically.
