2 APO-Summicron: Pescadero Creek Grass and Moss (M240)

This “deep 3D” scene confirms the results seen in the Green Lichen Barn comparison, which was a planar target (field curvature is always a concern when comparing lenses in that it can mislead as to peak sharpness when only a planar target is considered).

Both lenses were focused at f/2.4 with very close attention to focus at maximum Live View magnification. No filters were used and both lenses had their hoods in use.

This test used the 90mm f/2 APO-Summicron-R ASPH which is optically the same as the M version. Your author prefers the R version because it can easily be used with a lens adapter on Canon DSLRs, can be converted for use on Nikon, and can be used on Leica M with Leica’s R-Adapter-M. The R version has been discontinued for some years and would have to be obtained second-hand.
