Leica 180mm f/2.8 APO-Elmarit-R

Adapting to Canon or Nikon or Sony

The 180mm focal length is neglected by Canon, Nikon, Zeiss (as of 2016). But the Leica 180mm f/2.8 APO-Elmarit-R fits the bill nicely on the Sony A7R II: easily adaptable using a lens adapter such as the Novoflex with ASTAT tripod collar, the vibration free EFC shutter of the Sony A7R II eliminates the exposure vibration of the Leica M240 and adds a lot more pixels and higher dynamic range besides—along with a far superior EVF.

While the 180/2.8 can be adapted to Canon and Nikon, the lack of any EVF makes it much troublesome to shoot on those DSLRs, with handheld shooting problematic.

Use on Sony mirrorless with an adapter

Use a lens adapter such as the Novoflex adapter with ASTAT tripod collar. The collar isn’t exactly terrific, but it gets the job done, and the vibration-free EFC shutter of the Sony A7R II and similar camera bodies means razor sharp images. The main thing is that with sensor stabilization (IBIS) and the EVF, the Sony mirrorless platform is ideal for handheld shooting, not just tripod shooting as with DSLRs.
