Check your Diopter Setting

On cameras with diopter adjustment, verify that the setting you’ve chosen doesn’t trick your eye into misfocusing (shoot a high-contrast target such as newspaper, or a resolution target). Since the viewfinder forms an image of the internal camera ground glass, it can’t cause misfocus by itself, but it can force the eye to compensate for mal-adjustment, which can lead to eye fatigue/eyestrain and hence errors.

Manual focus accuracy can be tricky under the best of condition. It gave me fits with the Nikon D3 (but not with the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III). First, Nikon replaced the focusing assembly. But I still could not obtain accurate manual (eye) focus with lenses like the Zeiss ZF 100/2 Makro-Planar and several others.
