Fine Tune Autofocus for Each Lens

Use your camera’s autofocus adjustment to teach the camera to work with each lens more accurately.

Many recent DSLR cameras from Canon and Nikon now offer a fine focus adjustment, which can be set globally and/or on a per-lens basis.

The fine focus adjustment causes the autofocus system to bias the focus accordingly, helping to compensate for a disagreement between lens and camera. But if a camera is not 100% consistent, all such a feature can do is reduce the range of error. Focus error in general is distance-dependent, so any focus adjustment is only a biasing factor, not a perfect solution.
