Carl Zeiss ZF.2 15mm f/2.8 Distagon T*

Examples (Purissima Creek Redwoods, Nikon D3x)

All examples on this page with the 24-megapixel Nikon D3x at Purissima Creek Redwoods open space preserve on the California Coast, March 15, 2012.

All of these images were shot on a tripod due to dim conditions under the trees in a drizzly rain. Exposure times were slow.

Getting sharp detail in foliage was quite difficult due to the low light and constant breeziness, but repeated trials yielded images that are (mostly) sharp with ferns, etc.

No saturation was added here; the 15/2.8 Distagon has an incredible combination of color saturation and outstanding contrast that “pops”. Wet and rainy conditions really bring out the color.

I think it also likely that a good bit of the incredible vibrancy of the greens with these images is NOT DISPLAYABLE on an ordinary display. A wide gamut display like the NEC PA271W is notably better on the greens than my older NEC 3090WQXI. My comments are based on viewing on the NEC PA271W.
