Carl Zeiss ZF.2 15mm f/2.8 Distagon T*

Examples (White Mountains, Nikon D800E)

Examples on this page with the 15/2.8 Distagon on the 36-megapixel Nikon D800E, taken in Cottonwood Canyon in the White Mountains of California, Sept 25, 2012.

Sidelit aspen, Cottonwood Canyon

What’s remarkable here is the way this image comes together: detail is high in the expected zone of focus (a little less so off center), but the really striking thing is the almost complete absence of color fringing even at the edges, even out of focus, even on the fine grasses lit by the sun. There is no better corrected 15mm lens out there, and it contributes to an overall sense of clarity and realism that is impossible to achieve with most ultra wide lenses.

The sibling of the 15/2.8 Distagon, the 18/3.5 Distagon, cannot perform to this level.
