Bokeh
The 28/2 Distagon offers extremely pleasing background and foreground blur, which works in concert with its curiously strong curvature of field and (at f/2) vignetting to produce effects not really possible with alternative 28mm lenses.
It is an artist’s lens that defies instant understanding. Especially at f/2, the 28 Distagon can be used to draw attention to the subject like few other lenses. Stopping down diminishes wide-open characteristics, but still yields unusual image rendering. Only with extended shooting will skill develop to exploit its behavior—much as driving a quirky sports car can be dangerous and frustrating, but also very rewarding once mastered.
