This comparisons uses four different lenses, each having its own behavior:
- Zeiss 28mm f/2 Distagon (~2007 based on classic design).
- Nikon AF-S 28mm f/1.8G (2012 design).
- Nikon 28mm f/2 AIS (decades old design).
- Voigtlander Color-Skopar 28mm f/2.8 SL II (2012 design).
Considerations to bear in mind:
- Focus distance; some lenses perform better at distance than close-up.
- Field curvature, and how the resulting zone of sharp focus interacts with the focus distance.
- Correct of optical aberrations including color errors.
- Optical performance in general, sharpness and contrast.
- Distortion and vignetting.
- Actual focal length (all reasonably close here).
