Zeiss ZF.2 28mm f/2 Distagon T*

Comparison—Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III

This page compares the Zeiss ZF 28/2 Distagon to the Canon EF 24-70/2.8L and Nikon 28/2 AI-S. See also the comparison using the Nikon D3.

Focus was on the two small pink flowers at center, about 1/3 down from the top of the frame.

In contrast to the resolution chart test, where its relative performance was reduced substantially by curvature of field, the 28/2 Distagon looks outstanding compared to the Nikon 28/2 and Canon 24-70L on this test; field curvature apparently is diminished at larger distances (near infinity focus). This is why it’s always crucial to make real images when testing lenses, and not to just shoot test charts or brick walls, etc.
