Validating Optical Performance of the ZF.2 35/1.4
When I receive a new lens for testing, I don’t assume that it’s perfect, because my experience has been the opposite is usually true: perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 of Canon and Nikon lenses have at least some issue, as a rule. With Zeiss, I’ve had only isolated issues, so my confidence level is much higher.
Having tested the ZE 35/1.4 Distagon for this guide for about a month prior to receiving the Nikon ZF.2 version, my expectations were high. But I stuck to my usual initial protocol of getting some objective comparative results in comparison to the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G (see review in DAP) and the Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/2 Distagon. The Nikon 35/1.4G is an outstanding lens, and also an f/1.4 lens, making it an especially useful lens to compare with.
